Germany's COVID Rates Soar to Highest Level Since May
German health ministry warned of “an escalation of the situation”, as the COVID rate hits the highest level since May.
Germany's seven-day coronavirus incidence rate reached 100 infections per 100,000 people on Saturday, for the first time since May.
According to the Robert Koch health institute (RKI), the number has risen to 100 from 68.7 just eight days ago.
Furthermore, the German health ministry warned that "we are seeing an escalation of the situation".
On his account, health ministry spokesman Oliver Ewald stated that “the upwards trend became visible in almost all age groups over the past week and it is to be expected that the increase in case numbers will pick up speed in the further course of autumn and winter."
Official figures indicate that Germany recorded 86 new Covid-19 deaths on Saturday, bringing the country's total to 95,077.
In addition, 15,145 new infections were recorded over the course of 24 hours, a figure that has increased by 31% in the last eight days.
More than 66 percent of Germany's 83 million-person population has been fully immunized against Covid-19.
Almost 70% have received their first dose.
