In France, the Health Pass is required to enter public areas
The new French Health Pass is now required to enter restaurants, cafes, several shopping centers, events, and health facilities, in addition to numerous locations. Starting today, August 9, everyone over the age of 18 must show the Health Pass (Pass Sanitaire) to enter any of the following designated areas.
The Health Pass is not a separate health document that must be obtained from a hospital or municipality, but rather a method for an individual to demonstrate his Covid-19 status. It's possible to demonstrate in three distinct ways:
1. A negative Covid-19 test (rapid antigen or PCR) was performed within the last 48 hours.
2. A Covid-19 vaccination certificate indicating that you have been fully vaccinated.
3. A positive Covid-19 result from a Covid-19 test (rapid antigen or PCR) was performed between 11 days and six months previously.
These documents can be viewed on paper, digitally, or through the TousAntiCovid phone app.
It is not an identity check, but a health status notification
If any individual would like to have a “Bonne Appétit”, a Health Pass must be shown to the restaurant's staff. Moreover, if the restaurant staff suspect anything odd, they can call the police to check the customer's health status.
The TousAntiCovid phone app is how individuals will show their health status when their out.
This Health Pass will be required everywhere, including campsites, vacation resorts, and hospitals in non-emergency situations.
Moreover, the use of this Health Pass will allow restaurants and cafes to open with full capacity, omitting the 'Capacity of 50' rule that was applied earlier.
"The requirement to wear a mask does not apply to persons who have visited businesses, public places, services, and events" using a valid Health Pass, according to the law. Only public transportation, such as TGVs, buses, and aircraft, are exempt.
What if you are not a french resident?
Tourists already in France and not yet vaccinated can get Covid-19 tests to use it as a Health Pass. While vaccinated tourists from other countries will be able to apply for a QR code from the French authorities starting from Monday, August 9.
The Health Passes will be valid until at least November 15, according to the government.
