Inglewood campus shooting leaves two women critically injured
The Featherly Regional Park shooting comes just days after another violent incident in California. On Friday afternoon, a suspect opened fire at the Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology in Inglewood, critically injuring two people in what local officials have described as workplace violence.
The attack occurred around 3:40 pm on the college campus in the 8900 block of Aviation Boulevard. According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, two women were found with gunshot wounds and transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts told CBS News Los Angeles that the suspected shooter appeared to be wearing a security uniform at the time. The suspect, later identified as 40-year-old Jesse Figueroa, an unarmed security guard at the college, fled the scene but was arrested shortly after 6 pm in the Pico-Union neighborhood of Los Angeles.
According to police, it was Figueroa’s own family who called 911, reporting that he had shot two women and that the weapon was inside his car. He was taken into custody without incident.
A significant law enforcement presence, including tactical units, was deployed at the college campus during the investigation.
Initial reports of three victims were revised to confirm two.
