4 dead, 61 injured following fire in Evin prison in Iran
Four inmates lost their lives while several were injured after a fire broke out in one of the Evin prison workshops in Iran.
According to IRNA, Iran's judiciary said that after a brawl erupted among a few inmates of the Evin prison, in Iran, a fire broke out in one of the workshops, leading security and medical personnel to intervene.
The prison security personnel also assisted 70 convicts, caught in flames, and transported them to a safe location.
Despite all efforts, four prisoners died, and 61 were wounded. 51 of the injured were treated right away, while 10 were hospitalized. During the incident, some inmates attempted to escape but failed.
The situation in the Evin prison returned to normal on Sunday, and prisoners were permitted to contact their families.
The relatives of the four convicts that lost their lives have been informed, and their names will be made public following judicial approval.
