Driver kills 1, injures 17 in Berwick ramming, beats woman to death
Following the ramming incident in Pennsylvania, the assailant flees the scene and assaults a woman, beating her to death.
According to a US media report, over a dozen people were wounded in Berwick, Pennsylvania, after a vehicle struck a crowd commemorating victims of a deadly house fire that left 10 dead last week.
Pennsylvania's WBRE television station reported that the incident took place at 6:30 pm local time (22:30 GMT) on Saturday outside the restaurant, Intoxicology Department.
Spokeswoman for Geisinger Medical Center Natalie Buyny disclosed to NBC in a statement that there were 13 injured people following the incident, adding, "As of 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13, Geisinger is providing care for 13 patients from an incident in Berwick. Staff is assessing and triaging patients for appropriate care."
The residents of Berwick gathered earlier on Saturday to raise funds for the families of the victims of a house fire that claimed the lives of seven adults and three children in neighboring Nescopeck.
Pennsylvania police stated that the driver then proceeded to flee the scene, and shortly thereafter, beat a woman in Nescopeck to death, allegedly with a hammer in what seems to be a separate incident.
Violence is not new to the fifth-most populous state in the US. In April, a high school in the US state of Pennsylvania was placed on lockdown after a student was shot, the city of Erie announced.
