Fire breaks out in Qatar near World Cup stadium
Qatar's Interior Ministry says a fire broke out about 3.5 km from Lusail Stadium which is hosting several games during the 2022 World Cup.
Qatari authorities confirmed that a fire broke out on Saturday at an under-construction building in the newly built Lusail city where Argentina's World Cup match against Mexico will be held later in the evening.
The Qatari Ministry of Interior pointed out that the fire broke out just after noon local time on an island in Lusail, which is hosting several games during the 2022 World Cup.

According to The Guardian, "The blaze was about 3.5km from Lusail Stadium. It sent thick black smoke into the sky, which was visible from a marketplace in central Doha as World Cup fans milled among its shops and restaurants. There have been no reported injuries."

Huge plumes of black smoke can be seen rising into the sky next to one of the fan villages in the city of Lusail in Qatar.

This comes as host nation Qatar was eliminated from the World Cup on Friday after a second straight 3-1 defeat against Senegal.
Qatar became the first team to be knocked out of this World Cup after the Netherlands and Ecuador drew 1-1 in the other Group A game.
The Asian champions had high hopes coming into the tournament but become only the second home team to crash out in the group stage, after South Africa in 2010.
Goals from Boulaye Dia, Famara Diedhiou, and Bamba Dieng were enough to give the African champions Senegal the win.
It is the first time the World Cup hosts have gone out after just two games.
