The Taipei metro was momentarily closed for inspections before reopening. The state-owned power utility said the grid was running normally, while the railway administration said it was inspecting tracks.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd (TSMC), the world's largest contract chipmaker, announced that some employees had been evacuated.
"Personnel at certain TSMC fabs in north Taiwan evacuated during the earthquake as per company procedure, and all safety systems functioned normally," it said in a brief statement.
