A Seattle jewelry store was robbed in broad daylight as four masked thieves carried out a 90-second smash-and-grab, stealing nearly $2 million in jewelry, diamonds, and luxury watches, according to police.
The robbery took place around noon on August 14 at Menashe & Sons Jewelers in West Seattle, according to the Seattle Police Department.
According to the report, the suspects used hammers to break through the store’s locked glass door before smashing six display cases inside. They quickly filled black bags with valuables before fleeing in a getaway car.
Security footage obtained by the Associated Press (AP) shows the suspects, dressed in hoodies, breaking into the store and shattering display cases, while an employee in a gray suit raises his hands after being threatened with a weapon.

High-value items among stolen jewelry
Among the stolen items were:
- $700,000–$800,000 worth of Rolex watches
- An emerald necklace valued at $125,000
- A platinum diamond
- A "large amount" of gold jewelry, according to police
During the robbery, one suspect threatened employees with bear spray and a taser while the others cleared out the displays.
No employees or customers were physically injured in the heist, but staff said they were shaken.
"We’re pretty shook up as a staff," said Josh Menashe, the store’s vice president. "We’re gonna be closed for a while." The store confirmed it will remain closed until August 19 for repairs.
In a public statement, Menashe & Sons thanked the West Seattle community: "We are deeply thankful for the outpouring of support… We look forward to welcoming you back soon, stronger than ever."
After the rapid burglary, the thieves fled before officers arrived. Police searched the area but were unable to locate the suspects, who remain at large. Authorities urged anyone with information to contact the Seattle Police Department’s Violent Crimes Tip Line as the investigation continues.
