The slain officer, identified as DeKalb County Police Officer David Rose, died after responding to the reported gunfire. Officials stated during a Friday evening press conference that the officer was transported to the hospital in critical condition, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

'RUN. HIDE. FIGHT'
The shooting incident began at 4:50 pm, leading authorities to issue a shelter-in-place directive for the university and implement a lockdown at the CDC headquarters as a safety precaution.
According to police, DeKalb County officers responding to the incident tracked the suspect to the second floor of the Emory Point CVS Pharmacy located across from the CDC building, where an exchange of gunfire occurred as officers attempted to engage with the individual.
Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum stated during an earlier press conference that the suspect discharged multiple gunshots toward the CDC building during the incident, resulting in shattered windows from the gunfire.
Following reports of the shooting, Emory University immediately implemented a shelter-in-place directive across campus, which was later rescinded, while the institution issued an urgent afternoon alert advising individuals to "RUN. HIDE. FIGHT" and avoid the vicinity of the incident.
Police confirmed that 92 children were present at a CDC campus day care center during the incident but remained unharmed, while four other individuals were transported to a nearby hospital for stress and anxiety-related treatment following the shooting, according to Police Chief Schiebaum.
