Four were killed and several were injured in a Leland, Mississippi, mass shooting during homecoming celebrations.

Four people were killed and at least 12 others were injured in a shooting that occurred early Saturday morning in Leland, Mississippi, officials said.

Leland Mayor John Lee informed CBS News that the shooting occurred around midnight, resulting in four of the injured being airlifted to local hospitals, though there was no immediate information on their condition. There are currently no suspects for the shooting.

According to Lee, the shooting occurred on a main street where people had gathered for Leland High School's homecoming game, which, according to the school district's website, was scheduled against Charleston High School.

In a social media post on Saturday afternoon, FBI Director Kash Patel stated that the agency is mobilizing assets to assist local authorities in the case but provided no additional details.

Mass shootings continue to plague the United States, which has witnessed 10 mass shootings since October 1, 2025, killing 13 people in total. October 1 saw one shooting, while October 4 saw a whopping four shootings, two in Alabama, one in Michigan, and one in Texas. 

On September 29, 2025, a gunman drove his car through the front entrance of a Mormon church in Michigan, opened fire with an assault rifle, killed two people, and wounded eight others before being shot dead in a confrontation with police, as confirmed by US authorities.

Meanwhile, authorities in North Carolina confirmed that three people were killed and six others were injured after gunfire erupted on the night of September 28 at a popular waterfront restaurant.

A massive-scale shooting unfolded inside a Minneapolis church on August 27, where a gunman opened fire on children gathered for Mass, leaving two young pupils dead and 17 others injured, according to authorities.
