'Israel' arrested 4,695 Palestinians in the West Bank in two months
Besides detaining Palestinians left and right, the Israeli occupation continues to withhold the bodies of Palestinian prisoners killed under torture.
The Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) and the Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission released a new tally of Palestinians detained by "Israel", revealing that the number of Palestinian prisoners in the West Bank has risen to 4,695.
Palestinians in the West Bank are arrested from their homes and at military checkpoints, but the total record also includes hostages and individuals who surrendered to threats made against them or their families and turned themselves in, according to a statement by the PPS on Sunday.
The PPS also mentioned that the Israeli occupation forces brutally assaulted and threatened detainees and their families, as well as vandalized their homes and confiscated their properties.
The occupation has been carrying out raids and incursions in the West Bank and occupied al-Quds, involving arrests that target dozens of Palestinians. It is also pursuing prisoners that had been released in the exchange deal negotiated by the Palestinian Resistance with the occupation forces during the temporary truce weeks ago in Gaza.
'Israel' detains bodies of martyred Palestinians
Last week, the Palestinian Prisoners' Society confirmed that a year after the martyrdom of Nasser Abu Hamid, the Israeli occupation persists in detaining his body, along with 16 other prisoners associated with the Palestinian Captive Movement.
The statement revealed that among them is Anis Dawla, whose body has been detained since 1980, making his case the oldest, while the remaining bodies have been held since 2018.
According to the Society's records, "Israel" is retaining the bodies of six prisoners who died as a result of torture after October 7, including an unidentified individual from the Gaza Strip.
The Studies and Documentation Unit of the Palestinian Prisoners and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission had previously reported that "600 Palestinian prisoners are grappling with illness in Israeli occupation prisons," highlighting the dire conditions, brutal treatment, cruel torture, and criminality practiced by the Zionist entity against Palestinian prisoners in its detention facilities.
