At least 40 Palestinians have been burned alive and killed in Israeli airstrikes targeting refugee tent camps in Khan Younis, Gaza's Civil Defense reported on Thursday.
The strikes come amid intensified Israeli aggression across the Gaza Strip and the renewed offensive in Khan Younis.
Civil defense spokesman Mahmoud Bassal, speaking to AFP, said two missiles struck several tents in the al-Mawasi area of southern Khan Younis, killing at least 16 people, most of them women and children, and injuring 23 others.

"We were sitting peacefully in the tent, under God's protection, when we suddenly saw something red glowing — and then the tent exploded, and the surrounding tents caught fire," said Israa Abu al-Rus, a survivor, in an interview with AFP. “This is supposed to be a safe area in Al-Mawasi. We fled the tent towards the sea and saw the tents burning.”
In addition to the al-Mawasi bombing, Bassal said Israeli airstrikes targeted two more encampments: one in Beit Lahia, where seven people were killed, and another near al-Mawasi, where a father and his son were martyred.
In Jabalia, two separate Israeli attacks killed at least 13 more people. One strike claimed the lives of seven members of the Asaliya family, while another targeted a school being used as a shelter, killing six. Israeli shelling in Gaza City killed two more people.

Alarms sound as 'Israel' attempts to divide Gaza
Since the collapse of the ceasefire, the Israeli occupation's bloody onslaught in Gaza has completely obliterated areas across the Strip, particularly northern Gaza, and killed thousands of civilians, overwhelmingly women and children.
On Wednesday, "Israel" announced that it had transformed 30 percent of the Gaza Strip into a "buffer zone". This comes after the establishment of the Morag corridor, which was designed to sever Rafah from the rest of the Strip.
According to a Ynet report, the 36th Division is spearheading an offensive in the corridor, with senior military officials revealing plans to extend it to about 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) in length and 1.5 kilometers (1 mile) in width.
Israeli Security Minister Israel Katz declared that the IOF would take complete control of the area between the Morag Corridor and the Philadelphi Corridor along the Egyptian border, essentially transforming Rafah into a "buffer zone". In other words, Katz intends to displace Palestinians from Rafah and occupy the area.
Humanitarian organizations have raised the alarm over the reignition of the Israeli genocide in Gaza, with a joint statement issued by 12 NGO chiefs, including Oxfam and Save the Children, declaring, “Every single person in Gaza is relying on humanitarian aid to survive.”
The organizations warned that widespread hunger, lack of shelter, and inadequate medical care are reaching catastrophic levels due to the ongoing Israeli airstrikes and restrictions on aid delivery.
Qatar blames 'Israel' for collapse of ceasefire talks
Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, speaking during a visit to Moscow, said "Israel" is violating a previous ceasefire agreement reached earlier this year.
"As you know, we reached an agreement months ago, but unfortunately Israel did not abide by this agreement," he said.
The January ceasefire deal, brokered by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, broke down as Israeli occupation forces resumed their onslaught, intensifying attacks across the Gaza Strip, including Khan Younis and al-Mawasi.
Earlier today, Hamas said it remains firmly opposed to partial solutions that do not guarantee an end to the Israeli war on Gaza.
Speaking to Al Mayadeen, the official emphasized that the Palestinian group insists that any resolution must be comprehensive.
The latest Israeli ceasefire proposal fails to meet Hamas' core demands for a permanent ceasefire and a full withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip, the source indicated.
A couple of days ago, Al Mayadeen obtained a copy of the Israeli proposal submitted to mediators and subsequently conveyed to Hamas regarding negotiations for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
