Beirut files UN complaint over Israeli breach of sovereignty, airspace
Lebanon's permanent mission to the United Nations submitted a formal complaint on Monday against the Israeli air violations of the country's airspace.
"[These violations] constitute a flagrant violation of Lebanon's sovereignty and airspace, and of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 (issued in 2006)," as quoted by the Lebanese National News Agency NNA.
The Israeli air force hostilities violate international humanitarian law provisions to ban "all methods of collective punishment and psychological intimidation .. through terrorizing all civilians and spreading panic," especially among the most vulnerable parts of society, such as children, the mission added.
Since the onset of the Israeli onslaught on the Gaza Strip in October 2023 and the escalation along the Lebanon-occupied Palestine border area, the Israeli air strikes on southern towns and villages and the killing and wounding of civilians have become frequent.
Lebanon has filed several official complaints to the UN against the Israeli aggressions and crimes in the past ten months.
