President Assad Issues Decree to Form New Government
Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad issues a decree to form a new government headed by Hussein Arnous.
The Syrian presidency tweeted on Tuesday that President Bashar Al-Assad has issued a decree to form a new government under Prime Minister Hussein Arnou.
The decree announced appointing Faisal Al-Mekdad as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ghassan Al-Zammal as Minister of Electricity, and Mohammad Fayez al-Barasha as State Minister.
Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad issued a decree on August 1, as per which he assigned caretaker Prime Minister Hussein Arnous with forming the new government.
The official Syrian news agency, SANA, reported on the decree, stating, "President Bashar Al-Assad issued today decree no. 206 of 2021, assigning Eng. Hussein Arnous to form the government in the Syrian Arab Republic."
68-year-old Arnous has served as Prime Minister since June 2020, succeeding former Prime Minister Imad Khamis.
Arnous rose in positions since 1992, when he was appointed director of the General Company for Roads and Bridges before taking the position of Governor of Deir Ezzor, then Minister of Public Works and Housing since 2013, and finally, Minister of Water Resources since 2018.
