A recent SSRS poll conducted for CNN reveals that more than half of Americans are dissatisfied with President Donald Trump's handling of the economy, reflecting broader concerns over his economic agenda.
The survey found that 56% of respondents disapprove of Trump's economic management, while 61% expressed dissatisfaction with his tariff policies. His approach to foreign affairs received 58% disapproval, and 56% of Americans disapproved of his handling of health care policy.
The only area where Trump maintained majority support was immigration, with 51% approval. However, his overall job performance was viewed negatively by 54% of those surveyed.
Economic Uncertainty and Market Reactions
Concerns over Trump's economic policies come as the US stock market experiences heightened volatility, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average recently dropping 478 points, reflecting investor unease. Economists have pointed to recession fears, particularly linked to Trump's shifting tariff policies affecting major trade partners such as Canada and Mexico.
A separate Emerson College poll released on March 11 found that 45% of registered voters disapprove of Trump's economic decisions, marking a two-point increase from the previous week.
Voters Prioritize the Economy Over Other Issues
The economy remains a top concern for Americans, with 42% of CNN/SSRS poll respondents identifying it as their primary issue. This surpasses other concerns such as:
- The state of US democracy (19%)
- Immigration (14%)
- Health care (12%)
- Foreign policy (3%)
- Climate change (2%)
