63 Turkiye-backed forces killed, 37 injured during clashes: SDF
Clashes in northern Syria between the US-backed SDF and Turkish-backed forces have resulted in massive casualties for the latter.
63 Turkish-backed militants in Syria have been killed and 37 others injured, most of them critically, the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces' (SDF) Media Center announced following clashes that took place near the Tishreen Dam and southeastern Manbij on Wednesday.
According to the Media Center, the US-backed SDF were able to destroy a tank and five military vehicles, and targeted three armored BMB vehicles, noting that as a result, the "mercenaries were forced to flee, leaving their destroyed vehicles and their dead behind."
This comes after Turkish-backed forces launched a wide-scale attack on the villages of Alloush and Tal Areesh, as well as the hill of Siritel, in the vicinity of the Tishreen Dam, supported by warplanes and drones.
On Tuesday, Turkish drones bombed a convoy of civilians from northern and eastern Syria as they were heading to Tishreen Dam to demand an end to the “Turkish attacks on the dam,” which is the main source of water and electricity for the people of the region.
The Turkish bombing resulted in deaths and injuries among the civilian convoy, the center indicated.
The center confirmed that "Turkish warplanes bombed Tishreen Dam and its vicinity with several raids, coinciding with attacks carried out by mercenary factions affiliated with Turkiye on villages north of Tishreen Dam and southeast of Manbij, where violent clashes are taking place between the Manbij Military Council forces and the mercenaries."
