Turkish American National Steering Committee (TASC) signed a joint statement with the Orthodox Jewish Chamber of Commerce (OJC) to push trade with "Israel" aiming to achieve what the statement called regional peace, according to a Turkish opposition politician.

Both TASC and OJC opposed the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement led by Palestinians. For years, BDS has led a campaign against Israeli trade and products coming from the occupied territories, according to OdaTV and Metin Gürcan. Gürcan is a founding member of the Democracy and Progress Party (DEVA) which tweeted the announcement on his page.

👇Bugün imzalandı. 'Filistin davası' sizlere ömür!
Hele Dışişleri Bakan Yardımcısının şu gururla tuttuğu belgenin 4. veya 5. maddesini ben veya Sn. Ünal Çeviköz televizyonlarda konuşsak sanırım bizi 'yandaş medya' çarmıha gererdi. 🙏@UnalCevikoz pic.twitter.com/2jqTkEVkdx

The TASC is known for its close ties with the government of President Erdogan, according to the previous source. Both websites of TASC and OJC described the BDS as encouraging extremism and they both pledged to increase "regional peace and prosperity", according to the statement.

Gürcan published a picture of Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Yavuz Selim Kiran, in which he was seen holding the document of the announcement. Erdogan had attended a TASC meeting earlier this week, where he called on US investors to trust Turkey and allocate funds to work in the country.

A contradiction

In a contradictory position, Turkey had strongly condemned the UAE for normalizing ties with "Israel", describing it as a betrayal. Erdogan's ruling Justice and Development Party described the agreement as political suicide against the Palestinian cause, while today it is doing the same.

TASC background

TASC sees itself as an educational and support group for Turkish Americans and a promoter of better relations between the United States and Turkey. The Committee is best known for channeling the views of the Turkish government in its public statements and on its TASC-T television network. TASC has also been involved in organizing public campaigns in support of Turkey.
