The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) issued a statement denouncing what it described as brutal and illegal attacks on the country's nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan on Sunday at dawn.
The statement referred to the aggression as a violation of international law, particularly the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).
According to the statement, the United States has openly acknowledged its role in the attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities, both through cyberspace operations and public remarks by its president. The targeted sites, it emphasized, are under constant surveillance by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) under the Safeguards Agreement and the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
IAEA criticized for inaction
The AEOI criticized the IAEA for what it described as indifference and even complicity in the face of these violations. The agency's silence, according to Tehran, contributes to a climate of international lawlessness.
The statement sought to reassure the Iranian public that, despite the enemy’s “malicious plots,” the advancement of the nation’s nuclear industry, founded on the sacrifices of its nuclear martyrs, will persist. It attributed this steadfast progress to the resilience and dedication of thousands of Iran’s revolutionary scientists and specialists.
The AEOI declared its intention to pursue all necessary steps, including legal action, to defend the rights of the Iranian people and uphold Iran’s sovereignty in the face of these assaults.
US strikes Iran nuclear facilities
In a post on Truth Social on Sunday at dawn, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States carried out what he described as a "very successful attack" on three Iranian nuclear facilities: Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.
Trump stated that a "full payload of bombs" was dropped on Fordow, the primary target, and confirmed that all US aircraft involved in the operation have exited Iranian airspace and are "safely on their way home."
"Congratulations to our great American Warriors," Trump wrote, adding, "There is not another military in the world that could have done this. NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE!"
