Al Mayadeen's correspondent reports that Amrullah Saleh has declared himself president, indicating that he will fight with Massoud the Taliban after gathering his supporters, tanks, and planes in Panjshir.
Al Mayadeen correspondent reported today that Afghan Vice President Amrullah Saleh has declared himself president of the country.
Our correspondent pointed out that Saleh's announcement came after he met the son of Ahmed Shah Massoud, an Afghan politician and military commander who was killed by "Al-Qaeda" before the September 11 attacks. "Saleh announced that he would fight with Massoud the Taliban movement after gathering his supporters, tanks, and planes in Panjshir," he added.
Earlier, Amrullah Saleh tweeted that he was the "legitimate, caretaker president" of the country, adding that he was "in Afghanistan."
Clarity: As per d constitution of Afg, in absence, escape, resignation or death of the President the FVP becomes the caretaker President. I am currently inside my country & am the legitimate care taker President. Am reaching out to all leaders to secure their support & consensus.

The spokesman for the "Taliban" movement, Zabihullah Mujahid, announced on Tuesday that "the war is now over in Afghanistan," revealing that "we have relations with most countries, and we hope that they will invest in our country."
Mujahid added, in a press conference from the capital, Kabul, that "Afghanistan is going through a sensitive period,” congratulating the Afghan people for "resisting and expelling the occupation."
The "Taliban" also stressed that it "will not allow Al-Qaeda or any other terrorist organization to operate in Afghanistan."
The movement reiterated the necessity of the withdrawal of US forces from the country by September 11th, reminding everyone that it "is not interested in attacking US forces until then."
This comes after Taliban fighters entered the Afghan capital, Kabul, without a fight last Sunday, and took hold of the presidential palace, pledging to provide safety for all those working with the former Afghan administration. The movement promised to soon declare the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan from there.
Since last May, the Taliban has begun to expand its influence in Afghanistan, coinciding with the start of the final stage of the withdrawal of US forces, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of August.
