Ahmad al-Sharaa, head of Syria’s transitional phase, praised the decision made by US President Donald Trump to lift sanctions on Syria. Speaking on Wednesday in a televised address, al-Sharaa emphasized that Syria is committed to improving its investment climate and welcomes investors from within the country, the Arab world, and abroad.
“A new Syria begins today,” al-Sharaa declared, while acknowledging the long road ahead. He stressed that Syria will no longer be an arena for competing spheres of influence.
Al-Sharaa vowed to prevent the partition of Syria and the fragmentation of its people, stating, “Syria belongs to all Syrians, of all sects and ethnicities. Our strength lies in our unity, and we will never forget our martyrs and wounded.”
President Trump made the pledge to lift US sanctions on Syria during his visit to Saudi Arabia, where he met with Ahmad al-Sharaa ahead of a broader summit with Gulf leaders in Riyadh. This move marks a significant shift in the relationship between the United States and Syria, which has long been subject to US sanctions.
