Algeria's Tebboune to take constitutional oath following re-election
The president has officially begun his second term as the country's leader after being re-elected on September 7.
Algeria’s President Abdelmadjid Tebboune will swear the constitutional oath on Tuesday at the Palace of Nations in the presence of all the country's senior authorities.
After this constitutional procedure, the president officially begins his second five-year term as head of the country. Tebboune was re-elected for a second presidential term in the elections held earlier on September 7.
Tebboune officially secured a second term with 84.3 percent of the vote in last week’s election, according to final results announced on Saturday.
This figure is lower than the initial results of the country's electoral authority ANIE, which had placed his support at nearly 95 percent.
The preliminary count faced challenges from Tebboune’s rivals, who appealed to the Constitutional Court. On Saturday, Omar Belhadj, the court’s president, confirmed the revised results, with Tebboune comfortably leading over his two opponents.
"We announce that Mr Abdelmadjid Tebboune is elected for a second term, and will assume his responsibilities when he swears in," Belhadj said.
