Final results show Algeria’s President re-elected with 84.3% of votes
The country's electoral authority ANIE states that re-elected President Tebboune will assume his responsibilities when he swears in.
Algeria’s President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has officially secured a second term with 84.3 percent of the vote in last week’s election, according to final results announced on Saturday.
This figure is lower than the initial results released by the country's electoral authority ANIE, which had placed his support at nearly 95 percent.
The preliminary count faced challenges from Tebboune’s rivals, who appealed to the Constitutional Court. On Saturday, Omar Belhadj, the court’s president, confirmed the revised results, with Tebboune comfortably leading over his two opponents.
"We announce that Mr Abdelmadjid Tebboune is elected for a second term, and will assume his responsibilities when he swears in," Belhadj said.

Voter turnout for the September 7 election stood at 46.1 percent, as reported by the court's president.
This election saw over 24 million registered voters.
'Irregularities'
Tebboune was elected in December 2019 with 58 percent of the vote, despite a record abstention rate above 60 percent, amid the mass Hirak protests.
Presidential candidate Abdelaali Hassani, leader of the Movement of Society for Peace, formally challenged the election results on Tuesday after condemning them as "fraud" the day before.
Youcef Aouchiche, head of the Socialist Forces Front, also filed a challenge, alleging that the electoral authority, ANIE, "forged" the outcome.
In an unusual turn of events, all three campaigns, including Tebboune's, issued a joint statement on Sunday, raising concerns about alleged "irregularities" in ANIE's results and highlighting "vagueness and contradictions" in voter participation figures.
Including Tebboune's 94.65% support, ANIE's preliminary results showed that Hassani received 3.17% and Aouchiche 2.16%. Final results boosted Hassani's numbers to 9.56% of the votes, and Aouchiche to 6.14%.
