Algeria called on the international community, headed by the Security Council, to assume its historical and legal responsibilities towards the Palestinian cause.
Algeria's stance was expressed today by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ramtane Lamamra, who delivered his speech before the United Nations General Assembly.
Lamamra pointed out the need to end the occupation of the Palestinian lands, and grant the Palestinian people their right to establish an independent state with Al-Quds as its capital.
He renewed his country's adherence to and commitment to the Arab peace initiative, which aims to consolidate the two-state solution and liberate all occupied Arab lands, including the Syrian Golan.
Lamamra also stressed the need for the international community to focus on dealing with political tensions and the ramifications of the pandemic, notably in the Middle East and Africa.
The Algerian minister pointed out that his country will continue to defend the just causes of the peoples who struggle to regain their basic rights and self-determination, especially in Palestine and Western Sahara.
