The Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, announced the successful execution of a top-tier military operation targeting an Israeli occupation army force located east of the town of al-Qarara in Khan Younis, in the southern Gaza Strip.
In an official statement, the Brigades revealed that early on May 20, their fighters detonated a house where Israeli soldiers had taken refuge, employing multiple high-explosive devices. The resulting collapse of the building caused significant casualties among the Israeli troops, with several soldiers killed or wounded in the attack.
Furthermore, the statement detailed that al-Qassam fighters targeted a tunnel shaft in the area, which had drawn several Israeli reinforcements to the scene. After detonating the tunnel shaft, the fighters engaged the arriving soldiers in a light-arms confrontation, effectively doubling the losses suffered by the occupation forces at the site.
The al-Qassam Brigades also reported that their fighters closely monitored the arrival of Israeli helicopters landing at the location of the operation. These helicopters were seen conducting evacuation procedures, evacuating the dead and wounded soldiers from the area targeted in the attack.
On that day, the Palestinian Resistance groups announced several operations against Israeli troops, as the latter launched their wide-scale ground invasion of Gaza, further escalating the genocide against Palestinians.
Also on May 20, Palestinian Resistance fighters detonated a pre-planted GBU-39/B bomb abandoned by Israeli forces, destroying an Israeli military vehicle during its advance on al-Muntar Street in Gaza City's al-Shuja'iyya neighborhood on May 12, al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) movement, reported on Tuesday.
In a related development, the Israeli army issued a statement acknowledging that one of its soldiers was killed on May 20 due to friendly fire. The incident occurred during an inspection of a tunnel opening near Khan Younis, underscoring the dangers faced by Israeli troops in these operations.
This operation is part of a broader series of field actions carried out by the Palestinian resistance in direct response to ongoing Israeli military incursions into the southern Gaza Strip, highlighting the continued escalation of hostilities in the region.
