Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein AmirAbdollahian said on Friday that Iran will return to the special negotiations aiming to revive the 2015 nuclear deal "very soon".

In a statement he delivered on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly's meetings, the Foreign Minister described the talks between Iranian and Saudi officials as "constructive", emphasizing that Tehran presented effective suggestions for achieving peace in Yemen.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh announced that Iran has conducted several rounds of talks with the Saudi government in Baghdad during the past months, describing the talks on bilateral relations as good.

Earlier this month, in a phone call with his French counterpart Jean Yves Le Drian, Amirabdollahian said that Europe and the United States should return to the nuclear agreement, declaring that Washington is the one to blame because of its withdrawal from the nuclear deal, while Le Drian called for a swift return to nuclear talks.

In a related context, a senior US official revealed on Thursday that the opportunity still stands for the revival of the Iranian nuclear deal, but Tehran has not yet set a date for the resumption of talks.

He also added that Washington is still interested in the talks, and the opportunity remains open, but will not remain so forever.

Six rounds of talks had been conducted between Iran and the P4+1 group, comprising France, the UK, Russia, China, and Germany, between April and June 2021, in an attempt to revive the nuclear deal.
