Three Syrian youths were killed in a targeted armed attack in the village of Anaz in western Syria's Wadi al-Nasara region, sparking widespread protests and a general strike, prompting a pledge from Syrian authorities to find and prosecute those responsible.
The three Christian youths were killed and several others wounded after unknown gunmen opened fire in the village of 'Anaz in the Wadi al-Nasara region west of Homs.
According to eyewitness accounts, four gunmen on two motorcycles opened fire on a group of young men in the village, killing Wassim Mansour and Shafiq Mansour immediately before a third victim was later announced dead after succumbing to his wounds.
Attack stirs protests, strikes
Following the attack, locals declared an open-ended general strike across all towns and villages of Wadi al-Nasara, starting on Thursday and closing the main road between 'Anaz and the valley in protest of the crime.
The protesters also raised demands to hold the perpetrators accountable and condemned the massacre that occurred on Wednesday evening, all amid an atmosphere charged with tension.
The head of internal security in Homs, Morhaf al-Naasan, condemned the incident, stating in a release that "this heinous crime aims to destabilize security, spread fear in the region, and attempts to influence the electoral process for the People's Council."
Al-Naasan clarified that the relevant authorities have immediately begun taking the necessary measures to secure the area, pursue the investigation, and apprehend the perpetrators, while he called on citizens to remain calm and avoid being drawn in by rumors or provocations, affirming that anyone proven to be involved will be brought to justice to face a fair penalty.
