Backing of Abdel Nasser in 1967 paved way for October victory: El-Sisi
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi demands that efforts be concentrated on raising awareness on the October 1973 war.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi considered on Wednesday that the resignation of President Gamal Abdel Nasser on June 9, 1967, had a tremendous impact on the Egyptian army and the Arab world as a whole and created a significant challenge, emphasizing that "defeat occurs when we accept and embrace it."
El-Sisi's remarks came during the 38th educational seminar for the Egyptian Armed Forces held in Cairo, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the October 1973 war.
He called for protecting the memory of Egyptian citizens taking to the streets in rejection of the resignation of the late President Gamal Abdel Nasser.
The Egyptian President dismissed the notion that the late leader's resignation "was organized", confirming that "the Egyptian people protested against the defeat in 1967" and also rejected the resignation of Abdel Nasser.
He stressed that the Egyptian people's calls for Abdel Nasser to remain in power "was the first step toward victory," adding that his death in 1970 was a major blow to the Egyptian people.

El-Sisi also pointed to Arab military and political support during the October war, adding that "all of Egypt's resources were harnessed for the preparation of the October War," emphasizing the immense effort and determination that the Egyptian people exerted to secure victory.
Elsewhere, the Egyptian President called for the creation of a modern digital platform dedicated to the October 1973 War, saying that efforts should be concentrated on spreading awareness on the historic matter among Egyptian youth.
Both Egypt and Syria celebrate the anniversary of the 1973 war on October 6, when the armies of both countries waged a war of liberation against the Israeli occupation, in cooperation with forces from other Arab armies and allied countries including Cuba and the DPRK.
