Beijing expects ongoing China–US trade and economic consultations to continue unaffected by the current US government shutdown, the Chinese Embassy in Washington told RIA Novosti on Tuesday.
“As a matter of principle, we hope the US side will work with China to implement the important common understandings reached by our heads of state during their recent phone call,” embassy spokesperson Liu Pengyu said.
Liu added that China hopes both sides will “make good use of the China–US economic and trade consultation mechanisms” to enhance mutual understanding, reduce misperceptions, and strengthen cooperation on the basis of equality and mutual benefit.
Beijing: Cooperation remains mutually beneficial
The spokesperson reaffirmed that China’s position on trade with the US remains consistent and clear, emphasizing that the “essence of China–US economic and trade cooperation is mutual benefit and win-win outcomes.”
Commenting on the US government shutdown, Liu said it was “essentially about US domestic politics” and should not impact bilateral cooperation.
Beijing has repeatedly stressed the importance of dialogue and stability in the China–US relationship, particularly in the areas of trade, technology, and global economic recovery.
