Minsk intel chief: West military steps are preparations for Europe war
Belarusian intelligence chief warns of a coming war on Europe's eastern flank.
Ruslan Kosygin, head of the main intelligence department of the General Staff of the Belarusian armed forces, said that the West's recent military decisions are essential preparations for war on Europe's eastern flank.
"The entire range of military preparations by the West, including on the territory of Poland, testifies to the systematic development by Washington and Brussels, under the pretext of containing the threat from the East, of mechanisms for creation in the shortest possible time of groupings of troops for their possible use in certain operational areas, as well as a comprehensive support of their actions," said Kosygin. "That’s essentially preparations for engagement in hostilities on the eastern flank."
Poland and the Baltic states "are turning into a testing ground where the United States plans to unleash another bloody conflict in Europe against the Russian Federation and its allies."
"These plans are also confirmed by the ongoing operational and combat training activities that are practicing the transfer of troops (forces), the creation of groupings, their deployment and comprehensive support, and Russia and Belarus are considered as the enemy," Kosygin said.
Furthermore, the ongoing measures to deploy the European version of the US missile defense system are enough to look into to study the framework of how this may inflict military threats and challenges in the region, including on Belarus, according to Kosygin. A missile defense base in Poland, he added, is being put into operation and is close to completion.
Poland is creating further instability: Some Polish politicians are demanding some Polish "historical land" be brought back under its sovereignty - and by that land, they mean western Ukraine and Belarus, according to the official.
The answer to any Western provocations will be proportionate and tough, he said, stressing that the provocative country and its military infrastructure will become a target in case of an attack.
