Boris Johnson in for Commons fight with party report nearing
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson faces questions on parties in No 10 from MPs while the result of an investigation into his breach of lockdown rules is due.
Boris Johnson is in for a fight at Commons as the results of an internal inquiry into his breach of lockdown rules are due to be released.
Angry exchanges are likely according to the BBC, which said that Met Police has also announced its own investigation, adding even more pressure on the Prime Minister.
On her account, Commissioner Cressida Dick of the Metropolitan Police stressed that they were observing "potential breaches of COVID-19 regulations" in Downing Street and Whitehall since 2020.
The probe was initiated, she added, as a "result of the material presented by the Cabinet Office investigative team," which is chaired by civil servant Sue Gray.
Sue Gray, a senior civil servant, and the second permanent secretary at the Cabinet Office, is currently conducting the investigation whose report will be sent to the PM sometime on Wednesday.
Johnson has been at the center of a series of scandals recently, and last month a poll was released with a majority of respondents believing he should quit. He might soon be facing a vote of no confidence from his own party once the Sue Gray report is published.
William Wragg, chair of the Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee, came forward with accusations against the UK government, saying Downing Street had blackmailed and intimidated lawmakers who oppose Johnson.
In recent days, Wragg said, several MPs have "faced pressures and intimidation from members of the government" over their declared - or assumed - desire for a vote of confidence in the Conservative Party's leadership of Prime Minister Johnson.
