By day 458 of Israeli genocide in Gaza: 45,854 killed, 109,139 injured
Israeli massacres continue to claim innocent civilians in Gaza, with dozens killed in a few hours as the aggression intensifies.
The Israeli occupation has committed three massacres against Palestinian civilians within a 24-hour period, resulting in 49 deaths and 75 injuries, the Ministry of Health in Gaza reported on Sunday in its daily statistical update.
The report further revealed that since the outset of the aggression on October 7, 2023, the death toll in Gaza has climbed to a staggering 45,854, with 109,139 individuals injured. The humanitarian situation remains dire as rescue and civil defense teams struggle to reach victims trapped under the rubble or stranded in inaccessible streets.
In addition to those killed directly by the Israeli occupation forces, the toll of the war is much greater than could be imagined. For example, as a result of the dire humanitarian situation and the ongoing blockade, an infant died Sunday from hypothermia in Gaza.
In a heart-wrenching video shared by a Palestinian journalist on social media, the grieving mother, overcome with tears, described finding her child frozen, saying, "It was as if he had been placed in a freezer."
Children dying of hypothermia
The death of Ali Youssef Ahmed Kloub marks the eighth infant to succumb to hypothermia in the besieged Gaza Strip this winter. Ali, whose family was living in a makeshift tent on a beach, died as displaced Palestinians continued to endure dire winter conditions, including freezing temperatures amid the absence of adequate shelter or resources.
Ali's grieving mother described the unbearable conditions her family faces, borrowing bedding and blankets from other displaced families who are themselves struggling to keep their children warm. Health officials reported that infants and children are particularly vulnerable, with several deaths already recorded this winter due to exposure to the extreme cold.
In a previous press release, Gaza's Media Office emphasized the dire situation facing forcibly displaced families, whose homes were destroyed by Israeli airstrikes, leaving them vulnerable to the freezing winter conditions.
UNRWA calls for ceasefire
The official account of UNRWA on X posted images of children in Gaza, alongside a caption reading, "Children are very vulnerable to the cold after heavy rains and storms in the past week. Living in shelters for months, they lost everything, they need everything including food, blankets, warm clothes and shoes."
"The war must stop. #CeasefireNow for the sake of children wherever they are," UNRWA said.
