Iran expressed serious concern on Tuesday regarding the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803 on Gaza, warning that the measure undermines Palestinian sovereignty and legitimizes foreign control over the Strip.
In a statement issued by the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Tehran criticized the resolution for violating the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, particularly their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with al-Quds as its capital.
The Iranian statement warned that the resolution introduces a form of guardianship over Gaza, stripping Palestinians of their fundamental rights and sidelining their role in shaping their own future.
Tehran further noted that the resolution’s architects deliberately ignored the central role of the United Nations and its previous resolutions related to the Palestinian cause.
“Any attempt to legitimize the occupation of Gaza by the Zionist entity, or to fragment and separate Gaza from the unified geography of Palestine, directly contradicts the aspirations of the Palestinian people,” the ministry warned, cautioning of the dangerous consequences of such policies.
UN must lead, not undermine, ceasefire oversight
Iran emphasized that any international force in Gaza must operate exclusively under UN authority, with its role limited to overseeing a ceasefire and ensuring the unimpeded flow and distribution of humanitarian aid.
The Foreign Ministry also placed responsibility on the international community, especially states that have guaranteed the ceasefire, for holding the occupation accountable and ensuring its full withdrawal from Gaza and all Palestinian territories.
Tehran made clear that no resolution should violate the fundamental principle of ending the occupation.
Resistance a legitimate right under international law
The statement reaffirmed the legitimacy of resistance against occupation, apartheid, and colonialism, in line with international law. It asserted that resistance is the rightful response to the ongoing occupation and Israeli aggression.
Furthermore, Iran rejected any externally imposed solutions regarding the future of the Palestinian people or the administration of Palestinian territories, insisting such matters must be determined through Palestinian national consensus.
Humanitarian access, accountability prioritized
Highlighting the catastrophic conditions in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, Iran stressed that opening all crossings and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid must be treated as an urgent international priority, as Palestinians face genocide and forced starvation.
The ministry also called on the global community to apply effective pressure on the Zionist entity to end its crimes, occupation, and systematic violations of Palestinian rights.
Tehran criticized the UN Security Council for its failure to act over the past two years while genocide against Palestinians continued, urging international bodies to support Palestinian rights and hold perpetrators of war crimes and genocide accountable.
The statement concluded by reaffirming Iran’s full support for any regional or international effort aimed at halting the genocide and crimes committed by the occupation against the people of Palestine and Gaza. It emphasized the urgent need to ensure humanitarian aid reaches Gaza and that Israeli occupation forces fully withdraw from Palestinian lands.
