The Lebanese Ministry of Defense announced a ceasefire agreement with Syria late Monday, restoring calm to the border areas on both sides.
The Lebanese Army announced on Tuesday that it is communicating with the Syrian leadership to resolve the fighting on the Lebanese-Syrian border near Hermel.
According to a ministry statement, National Defense Minister Major General Michel Menassa called his Syrian counterpart, Marhaf Abu Qasra, to discuss developments on the Lebanese-Syrian border.
The statement detailed how an agreement was reached between both sides with "continued communication between the Lebanese Army Intelligence Directorate and Syrian Intelligence to prevent the deterioration of the situation on the border between the two countries and avoid the loss of innocent civilian lives."

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun called Foreign Minister Youssef Rjei, who is currently in Brussels, and asked him to communicate with the Syrian delegation participating in the ninth 'Supporting the future of Syria and the region' conference to work towards resolving the existing border issue as quickly as possible.
On Monday, seven people were killed and 36 others were wounded after Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) launched an attack on the Lebanese border town of Hawsh al-Sayyed Ali in the Hermel District, Baalbek-Hermel Governorate, an Al Mayadeen correspondent reported.
Rocket shells also struck the nearby town of al-Qasr, originating from the countryside of al-Qusayr in Syria. Despite reports suggesting that militants had entered the Lebanese side of Hawsh al-Sayyed Ali, Al Mayadeen's correspondent confirmed that these armed groups remained at least 500 meters away from the town.
The Lebanese Army responded by launching an airstrike on artillery positions targeting civilians in the area. The army confirmed in a statement that specialized units were deployed to Hermel after several Lebanese military positions were attacked from inside Syrian territory.
Lebanese forces directed concentrated fire toward the attackers' positions to halt further aggression. The statement added that military reinforcements were in place to strengthen defensive positions and prevent further violations of Lebanese sovereignty. Additionally, communication between the Lebanese military and Syrian authorities is ongoing to restore calm in the border region.
Meanwhile, Syrian media reported that at least five militants were killed in today's clashes along the Syrian-Lebanese border.
