The Lebanese Army announced on Tuesday that it is communicating with the Syrian leadership to resolve the fighting on the Lebanese-Syrian border near Hermel.
"After the killing of two Syrians and the injury of another near the Lebanese-Syrian border in the vicinity of Al-Qasr - Hermel, the wounded individual was taken to a hospital for treatment but later succumbed to his injuries," the Lebanese Army stated on X, adding that it "implemented exceptional security measures and conducted intensive communications from the night of March 16-17, 2025, until the early morning hours. Consequently, the three bodies were handed over to Syria."
The army's statement added that several villages were bombarded from the Syrian side, prompting Lebanese Army units to retaliate with the appropriate weapons, reinforcing its deployment and maintaining security control.
"Communications between the Army Command and the Syrian authorities are ongoing to maintain security and stability in the border area," the Lebanese Army's statement concluded.
The situation so far
Armed confrontations broke out between the Syrian regime and Lebanese tribes on March 17 after three armed individuals from the Syrian side infiltrated the town of al-Qasr on the Lebanese-Syrian border near Hermel, prompting residents to attack them, killing two on the spot and wounding one of them.
On Sunday evening, an Al Mayadeen correspondent in eastern Lebanon reported ongoing artillery shelling from Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham positions in the countryside of al-Qusayr, Syria, targeting the Lebanese border town of al-Qasr, located north of the Hermel district.
According to the reporter, an artillery shell fired by the militant group hit a house in Hawdh al-Assi near Hosh al-Sayyid Ali, a village along the Lebanese-Syrian border, resulting in the martyrdom of a child and injuring four others in the bombardment.
At the same time, a Lebanese Army reconnaissance drone was observed monitoring the skies over Hermel and the border regions with Syria.
Previous confrontations
Similar clashes broke out on February 6 between Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham militants and the residents of the border village of Qusayr, with several captured from both sides.
During the clashes, nearly 50 artillery shells launched by the Syrian regime's troops from al-Qusayr targeted towns on the outskirts of Hermel, injuring around 10 people, while a rocket landed near a Lebanese Army base in Wadi Fisan.
The previous day, HTS militants launched an explosive-laden drone that detonated over Jarmash, while two rockets, also attributed to HTS, landed near the Lebanese town of al-Kawakh and its surrounding heights, prompting Lebanese tribes from the Bekaa valley to destroy a tank in the Syrian border town of al-Jarmash.
The residents of Qusayr captureÙŠ two Syrian troops, while HTS detained 14 people from Hawik, including women and children. Shortly after, Al Mayadeen reported that an agreement was reached for an exchange between the residents in the border town and HTS.
