China opposes Trump's plan to remove Palestinians from Gaza and the US taking over the Strip, reiterating China's position on the forced displacement of people, according to a statement by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun.
"[China] all along believed that ‘the Palestinians governing Palestine’ is the fundamental principle of post-conflict governance of Gaza," the Foreign Ministry spokesperson said, emphasizing that "We oppose the forced displacement of the people in Gaza,"
According to the statement, China hopes that the parties involved in the ceasefire will see it as an opportunity to refocus the Palestinian issue toward a two-state solution and achieve lasting peace in the Middle East.
It added that China is ready to cooperate with the international community to take the two-state solution as the "fundamental way out" and push for a fair political settlement for the Palestinians.
In 2023, China called the United Nations Security Council to restore the two-state solution, saying that "Any arrangement on the future of Gaza must respect the will and independent choice of the Palestinian people, and must not be imposed upon them,"
Trump draws worldwide condemnations
Trump announced on Wednesday that he plans to move Palestinians out of Gaza, sending them to neighboring countries like Jordan and Egypt, and the US will take over the Gaza strip and develop it "for the people in the area" during a joint press conference with the Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu.
"The US will take over the Gaza Strip and we will do a job with it, too. We'll own it. And be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on this site," Trump announced.
The announcement has drawn worldwide condemnation from the foreign ministries of several countries, strongly opposing the forced displacement of the Palestinian people.
The King of Jordan said he's opposed to the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank, asserting the need to focus efforts on sustaining the ceasefire and providing humanitarian relief.
A joint letter was sent to Marco Rubio by five arab countries opposing any plans to forcibly displace Palestinians from their land and emphasizing that the Palestinians must be part of rebuilding Gaza.
The American president claimed that he spoke with the president of Egypt, saying "He's a friend of mine. He's in a very rough part of the world... but I think he would do it." Egypt denied that such a conversation occurred.
