China-Taiwan reunification, US weapons won't come in-between
Zhang Xiaogang affirms that the procurement of US weapons from Taiwan will not stop the reunification.
Chinese Defense Ministry Spokesperson Zhang Xiaogang stated today that the procurement of US weapons by the Taipei administration will only bring the danger of war closer but will not stop Taiwan’s reunification with China.
"The leadership of the Democratic Progressive Party (Taiwan's ruling party) is spending money earned by the sweat and blood of the people of Taiwan to buy American weapons in its own interests, this will not stop the trend of complete reunification of the Motherland, but will only push Taiwan into a dangerous situation of a dangerous and terrible war," he added.
He also emphasized that the Chinese military always maintains a high level of combat readiness and will take all measures to stop "Taiwanese independence" plans.
China warns the US
China has once again warned against US intervention in Taiwanese-Chinese affairs, emphasizing the necessity to avoid any false signals that give separatists the wrong impression.
During a regular press conference on Wednesday, Mao Ning, China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, said the US “needs to earnestly abide by the one-China principle and stipulations of the three China-US joint communiqués, prudently and properly handle Taiwan-related issues, and stop official contact with the Taiwan region.”
She then reiterated China's cemented stance against US intervention in Taiwanese elections, saying it sends separatists and independent forces the wrong message, as “there is only one China in the world. Taiwan is an inalienable part of China," adding that China firmly "opposes the US having any form of official contact with the Taiwan region."
They asked nicely before
In a government report at the opening of the first session of the 14th National People's Congress, China's supreme legislative body, China stressed that it will "steadfastly implement the [Chinese Commuist] Party's overall strategy to resolve the Taiwan issue in the new era, firmly uphold the one-China principle and abide by the 1992 consensus," as per Chinese state-run news agency Xinhua.
It also underlined that the government will "fight resolutely against so-called Taiwan independence, promote the peaceful development of relations between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, and advance the peaceful reunification of the homeland."
Chinese Defense Ministry Spokesperson Tan Kefei then demanded "that the United States stop selling arms to Taiwan and military contacts with Taipei, stop interfering in the Taiwan issue and aggravate tensions in the Taiwan Strait."
