Later in the day, NBC News reported, citing an informed source, that guards at CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia, had non-fatally shot an individual early Thursday morning in what the agency described as a "security incident."

The report cited a CIA spokesperson stating there had been a security incident outside the CIA Headquarters that prompted a law enforcement response, noting the main gate remained closed and advising employees to use alternate routes while adding that further details would be provided when appropriate.

Israeli embassy staff killed in Washington shooting

Earlier on March 21, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem reported that two Israeli embassy staff members in Washington were fatally shot near a Jewish museum during the evening.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem reported that two Israeli embassy staff members in Washington were fatally shot near a Jewish museum during the evening, with Noem later confirming the deaths in a post on X after the shooting occurred outside the Capital Jewish Museum, just steps from the FBI’s Washington field office.

Attorney General Pam Bondi stated she was present at the scene alongside former judge Jeanine Pirro, who currently serves as the US attorney for Washington, DC.

Witnesses reported seeing a man pacing near the building before he suddenly approached a group of four people and began shooting, according to Smith's account, which noted that the attack resulted in the deaths of two victims, a man and a woman believed to be in a relationship together.

Authorities have preliminarily identified the alleged shooter as 30-year-old Elias Rodriguez from Chicago, Illinois, with Smith clarifying that the suspect had no documented history of previous encounters with police before this incident.
