Daqqa family: 'Israel' holding his body, bans mourners from gathering
The family of martyred detainee Walid Daqqa revealed to Al Mayadeen that he, like all detainees, was forcibly isolated since the beginning of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, and they only learned of his martyrdom through the media.
The family of the martyred Palestinian detainee Walid Daqqa informed Al Mayadeen that the Israeli occupation continues to hold the martyr's body, indicating that the decision to release Daqqa's body lies with the Israeli occupation's Police Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.
Daqqa's family told Al Mayadeen, "We had no knowledge of his transfer to the Assaf Harofeh Medical Center until we learned of his passing through the media," adding that the "occupation deprived us of visits and communication with him since October 7."
In their conversation with Al Mayadeen, the martyr's family noted that even his lawyer was only allowed two visits by order of the occupation court.
Regarding the prisoner's health condition prior to his death, the family stated that "Israel" implemented its medical negligence policy against martyr Daqqa, which led to the inevitable deterioration of his health.
According to the family, the cancer-stricken martyr, as a result of his worsening condition, magnified by the policy of medical neglect, suffered from a kidney condition.
Significantly, the family noted, that during their last visit to see martyr Daqqa, which was on October 6, his health condition had improved. However, after six months of no contact, they were informed that he was martyred due to his health issues.
On their part, Al Mayadeen's correspondent reported that the Israeli occupation police besieged martyr Daqqa's family home and threatened the family, forbidding them from receiving mourners in their yard.
Palestinian factions mourn Daqqa, hail his role with Captive Movement
Palestinian Resistance factions mourned detainee Walid Daqqa, who was martyred inside the Israeli Assaf Harofeh hospital on Sunday due to the policy of medical neglect after a long struggle with illness.
The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) described the martyr as "the revolutionary leader," affirming his status as one of the prominent figures, leaders, and thinkers of the Palestinian Captive Movement.
In a statement, the PFLP emphasized that Daqqa had a rich and distinctive intellectual and literary experience unmatched in its impact on the lives and revolutionary spirit of the detainees.
The Front added that the martyr was one of the most prominent symbols of prison literature and contributed significant intellectual and literary studies to the Palestinian, Arab, and international libraries.
According to the PFLP, Daqqa was one of the prominent national leaders and detainees of the Palestinian territories occupied in 1948 who were on the front lines in confronting the practices and violations of the Israeli occupation, adding that he took part in all the battles of the Captive Movement.
On its part, the Hamas movement mourned Daqqa and stressed in a statement that it renews its covenant to the detainees until they achieve freedom.
Hamas' head of the Office of Martyrs, Wounded and Prisoners pointed out that the crimes of Israeli Police Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir against the detainees, the last of which was the martyrdom of Walid Daqqa, are an attempt to thwart the efforts of the mediators and place obstacles in front of them.
Similarly, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) movement said that Daqqa's martyrdom inside the Israeli occupation's prisons "made him a living embodiment" of the suffering experienced by Palestinian detainees in prisons.
The PIJ pledged "to spare no effort" to liberate the detainees from the Israeli occupation prisons.
With Daqqa's martyrdom, the number of Palestinian detainees killed in Israeli occupation prisons since the start of the war on Gaza now stands at 14, and at 251 since 1967.
