Dozens of al Shabaab terrorists killed in Somalian army operations
The Somali Armed Forces confirmed eliminating dozens of al Shabaab terrorists, including ringleaders, in the Lower Shabelle region.
More than 30 Al-Qaeda-linked al Shabaab terrorists were killed while attempting an attack in the Qoryoley district in the Lower Shabelle region, during an operation carried out by the Somali Armed Forces and their international partners, state-run Somali news agency SONNA reported on Saturday.
The news agency confirmed that the Somali forces and their partners thwarted the terrorist attack, destroyed booby-trapped vehicles, and killed dozens of al Shabaab terrorists in the process.
It added that the Somali army launched a search operation for al Shabaab remnants who fled the operation scene into a forest.
In the same context, SONNA also reported that the army and its partners killed more than 20 al Shabaab terrorists, including ringleaders, in planned operations in the Towfiiq area in the Kunturwarey district in the Lower Shabelle region.
According to the news agency, senior leaders of the al Shabaab and other militants were in a house in the area.
Last year, Somalia's President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud launched an "all-out war" against al Shabaab, which retains power in large swathes of rural areas and continues to carry out attacks against security and civilian targets, including in the capital, Mogadishu.
