DPR, LPR forces launch counterattack against Ukraine military in Donbass
Troops from the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics launch a counterattack against Ukraine forces present in Donbass.
Troops from the Donestk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR) have begun to launch a counterattack against Ukraine's forces in Donbass, according to a statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The statement further said that the Ukrainian frontline was breached.
"At the moment, they [DPR and LPR troops] have launched a counteroffensive with fire support from the Russian Armed Forces. They have broken through the front line of the echeloned, well-equipped defense of the Ukrainian military", Russian Ministry of Defense chief spokesperson Major General Igor Konashenkov said.
The Major General further said that Ukraine's Security Service is preparing and carrying out provocations using the methods used by the "White Helmets" in Syria, by staging fake videos depicting "mass casualties" amid conflict.
The counterattack comes after Russia launched a military operation in Donbass targeting Ukraine's military infrastructure, announced in a speech by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"Leading NATO countries pursue their own goal by fully supporting Ukraine's extreme Nazis and neo-Nazis, who, in turn, will never forgive the people of Crimea and Sevastopol for their free choice to reunify with Russia", said the Russian president.
"They will, of course, go to Crimea, like to Donbass, the way they do it, to kill, like executioners from the bands of Ukrainian Nazi supporters of Hitler were killing innocent people during World War II".
