The leaders of Egypt, France, and Jordan issued a joint statement during a tripartite summit in Cairo on Monday to discuss the situation in Gaza, calling for "an immediate return to a ceasefire to protect Palestinians and ensure they receive immediate and full emergency humanitarian assistance."
The leaders urged the implementation of the ceasefire agreement signed in January, emphasizing that protecting civilians and humanitarian workers and ensuring full access to aid are obligations that must be fulfilled under international law and international humanitarian law.
In their statement, the leaders expressed deep concern over the worsening humanitarian situation in the West Bank and the eastern part of occupied al-Quds, calling for an end to all measures that threaten the viability of a "two-state" solution. They also emphasized the importance of preserving the historical status quo of the holy sites in al-Quds and reaffirmed their rejection of the forced displacement of Palestinians and any efforts to usurp Palestinian territories.
In this regard, the statement highlighted the importance of securing international support for the Gaza reconstruction plan, which was adopted by the Arab Summit in Cairo on March 4 and endorsed by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on March 7.
The leaders also discussed mechanisms for ensuring its effective implementation, particularly in terms of security and governance. They reaffirmed the need to crystallize these efforts at the June conference, co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia, to establish a clear political path for implementing the "two-state" solution, as outlined in the joint statement.
Regarding the post-war government of the Gaza Strip, all leaders stated that the Palestinian Authority must be solely responsible for it.
"Governance, law and order, and security in Gaza, as well as in all Palestinian territories, must be the sole responsibility of a strengthened Palestinian Authority," their joint statement said.
Macron is set to visit warehouses for assistance in Gaza and a hospital where injured Palestinians from Gaza are treated on Tuesday, the third day of his visit to Egypt.
During his visit to Cairo, French President Emmanuel Macron scheduled a conversation with US President Donald Trump, his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, and Jordan's King Abdullah II to discuss Gaza, according to the French presidency.
"On the initiative of the president of the Republic, a call was organized today with President Trump" and the other leaders "to discuss the situation in Gaza," the Elysee Palace stated.
