Egypt put forward a new proposal last week to restore the Gaza ceasefire deal, Reuters reported on Monday, citing security sources.
The initiative comes after "Israel’s" decision to resume air and ground attacks on Gaza last Tuesday, effectively ending two months of relative calm.
According to the sources, Egypt’s plan calls for Hamas to release five Israeli captives each week, with "Israel" committing to the second phase of the ceasefire after the first week.
Both Hamas and the US have agreed to the proposal, the security sources stated, but "Israel" has yet to respond.
The proposal also includes a timeline for releasing all captives in exchange for a schedule outlining "Israel’s" complete withdrawal from Gaza, with US guarantees backing the agreement, the sources added.
Hamas has accused "Israel" of violating the terms of the January ceasefire agreement but has stated it remains open to negotiations. The Resistance movement is currently reviewing proposals from US President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff.
Israeli aggression on Gaza kills more than 40 people within hours
The Israeli aggression on Gaza continues intensifying, killing more than 40 people as "Israel" targets several areas across the blockaded Strip.
46 Palestinians were killed in Gaza since Sunday dawn, according to an Al Mayadeen correspondent, who also reported that two were martyred and several were injured when an Israeli airstrike targeted a tent for displaced Palestinians in Khan Younis.
In addition, the Israeli occupation forces conducted an airstrike near Kaff al-Qarara, northeast of Khan Younis amid violent airstrikes targeting Central Khan Younis, while an airstrike targeted the northern sector of al-Bureij camp in Central Gaza.
Al Mayadeen's correspondent in Gaza also reported that Israeli airstrikes targeted the ER department of the Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, engulfing it in flames.
On the other hand, Gaza's Civil Defense directorate confirmed the loss of contact with its team in the Barracks area west of Rafah, in the southern part of the Strip, while attempting to intervene to rescue the Red Crescent ambulance crew, which had been targeted by an Israeli attack.
The death toll from the Israeli occupation's ongoing war against Gaza has exceeded 50,000, with the Ministry of Health in Gaza reporting on Sunday that 50,021 were killed and 113,274 were injured since October 7, 2023.
Since Israeli attacks resumed on March 18, a total of 673 people have been killed and 1,233 wounded. In the past 24 hours alone, Gaza's hospitals received 41 bodies and 61 injured individuals, while an additional 233 fatalities were confirmed by the judicial committee handling missing persons and related cases.
