Eighth Palestinian prisoner killed in Israeli Ofer prison since Oct.7
Al-Sabbar had been detained since May 2022 and has been deprived of medical treatment in the Israeli prison as he was suffering from health issues related to the stomach and intestines which required him to need treatment and specific dietary needs.
The Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Committee and the Palestinian Prisoners' Club have confirmed the martyrdom of prisoner Muhammad al-Sabbar, the eighth Palestinian to die in Israeli prisons since October 7.
The Committee and the Palestinian Prisoner's Club confirmed that Muhammad Ahmad Ratib Al-Sabbar, a 21-year-old from Al-Dhaheriya, Al-Khalil, was martyred in the Israeli “Ofer” prison
Al-Sabbar had been detained since May 2022 and has been deprived of medical treatment in the Israeli prison as he was suffering from health issues related to the stomach and intestines which required him to need treatment and specific dietary needs.
A statement by both committees indicated that although he was arrested nearly 2 years ago, the brutality of the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) was multiplied after October 7 and Al-Sabbar was denied basic treatment.
According to the Commission and the Prisoners Club, the accounts conveyed by recently released prisoners, testimonies from lawyers, and information from various sources regarding prisoners who were martyred after October 7 all validate that torture and severe physical assault against prisoners at the hands of the Israeli occupation army's repression and special units directly led to the prisoners' martyrdom.
Al-Sabbar has become the second Palestinian martyred in occupation prisons since the beginning of 2024 and the 8th since Operation Al-Aqsa Flood was initiated on October 7, 2023.
With al Sabbar's martyrdom, the number of Palestinian prisoners martyred in occupation prisons since 1967 has risen to 245.
In January, the Israeli occupation prisons administration assassinated prisoner Abdulrahman Bassem al-Bahsh, 23, from Nablus in "Megiddo" Prison.
In a statement, the committee and Prisoner's Club stressed that al-Bahsh's assassination confirms the relentless continuation of the Israeli occupation, without any hindrance or consideration, in carrying out further targeted assassination operations against prisoners and detainees in its prisons, coupled with systematic torture and abuse, with the explicit intent of murdering Palestinian prisoners.
Seven Palestinian prisoners have been martyred in Israeli occupation prisons since October 7, including three in "Megiddo". The prisoners are Omar Draghmeh, Arafat Hamdan, Majed Zaqoul, Abdul Rahman Mar'i, Thaer Abu Asab, and al-Bahsh, in addition to a fourth martyr whose identity is still unknown.
