Erdogan urges Islamic world to unite against Israeli aggression
Turkiye's president called on the Islamic world to put aside their differences in support of the Palestinian and Lebanese people as they face "Israel's" aggression.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stressed Monday the crucial necessity for the Islamic world to put aside its differences and unify in support of the Palestinian and Lebanese people as they face the Israeli aggression.
"It is of great importance for the Islamic world to put aside differences and support the Palestinian and Lebanese people," the president said.
For the 13th consecutive day, the Civil Defense remains incapacitated across all areas of the northern Gaza Strip due to ongoing Israeli targeting and aggression. Consequently, thousands of Palestinians in the region are still deprived of essential humanitarian and medical care.
Speaking at the inaugural event of the 40th Session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation's Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) in Istanbul, Erdogan stated that one of the most horrible genocides of the century is occurring in Gaza.
According to Erdogan, the inhumanity happening "overshadows the extermination camps established in the heart of Europe during World War II, first in Gaza and now in Lebanon over the past six weeks."
Turkiye has entirely suspended transactions with 'Israel'
Erdogan stressed that Turkiye has entirely suspended commercial transactions with "Israel," stating that this move has resulted in a trade volume loss of around $9.5 billion, and emphasized that recognition of Palestine as a state is one of the finest ways to respond to the assault on Gaza and Lebanon.
He extended his salutations to the Palestinian people, who mhe says, despite all their struggles continue to remain steadfast and "defend their land at the cost of their lives."
Against the backdrop of a weakening global economy, Erdogan emphasized the rising need of collaboration within the Organization of Islamic Collaboration (OIC). He emphasized the need of protecting young people from digital risks and improving their ability to battle cyberattacks, using recent terrorist acts in Lebanon as an example.
He stated that, while the global economy expanded by 3.3% in 2023 and is expected to continue to develop, concerns such as geopolitical tensions and rising inflation are putting pressure on economic activity.
More than 50 countries press UN for arms embargo on 'Israel'
More than 50 nations have signed a statement urging the United Nations to impose a weapons embargo on "Israel," as genocide continues in Gaza.
Turkiye's Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Sunday that it has sent the United Nations a letter signed by 52 nations and two organizations calling for a halt in military transfers to "Israel".
The Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan confirmed the action and accused nations who send weapons to "Israel" of genocide.
Fidan stated at a news conference in Djibouti, where he was attending the Turkiye-Africa collaboration meeting, that a joint letter was sent to the UN on November 1, calling on all nations to stop arming "Israel", citing that it must be "repeated at every opportunity that selling arms to Israel means participating in its genocide."
Ahmet Yildiz, Turkiye's permanent ambassador to the UN, stated that "Israel's" actions had pushed the region to the brink of war.
Last month, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan urged the UN to impose an arms embargo on "Israel", saying it would be an "effective solution" to end the war on Gaza.
Erdogan stated that establishing a comprehensive arms embargo against "Israel" is necessary to boost pressure to end the war in Gaza, asserting that the occupation is trying to spread the "flames of conflict" it has sparked across the area.
He further warned that the occupation would inevitably "pay the price for this ongoing genocide in Gaza, sooner or later," noting that those dying in Gaza, parts of Palestine, and Lebanon are not just women, children, and innocent civilians but also represent the death of "humanity and the international order."
