Palestinian Resistance movement Hamas told Al Mayadeen on Friday that the claims made by some media outlets about it sending a delegation to Egypt in response to Cairo's bid for a ceasefire in Gaza were false.
Hamas told Al Mayadeen that it did not send such a delegation after Egypt made a ceasefire proposal, which entails three stages that would lead to a cessation of Israeli hostilities in the Gaza Strip.
Some reports had indicated that a senior delegation from Hamas' politburo went to Cairo on Friday to offer the Resistance's feedback to the Egyptian authorities about their ceasefire proposal.
This development follows an announcement on Thursday by Diaa Rashwan, the head of Egyptian General Intelligence, which revealed that Egypt had put forward a comprehensive framework aimed at reconciling the perspectives of the involved parties with the goal of "preserving Palestinian lives."
Rashwan clarified that "the proposal encompasses three successive stages intricately linked, ultimately leading to a cessation of hostilities."
He further indicated that upon receiving a response from the concerned parties, "the proposal will be meticulously detailed and publicly announced in its entirety."
This comes on the heels of a bilateral summit between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Jordanian King Abdullah II.
PIJ in Cairo for talks
On December 23, a delegation from the Islamic Jihad movement arrived in Cairo to hold discussions with Egypt, with talks focused on ending the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.
The Secretary-General of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement affirmed at the time that the Resistance movement arrived to engage in negotiations held in Egypt with a clear set of goals: the end of the Israeli aggression on Gaza, the withdrawal of Israeli forces, and the reconstruction of the devastated Strip.
Earlier the same day, Hamas' Political Bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh landed in Cairo for talks with Egyptian officials regarding the Israeli war on Gaza and "other issues," as per the Resistance group.
The Resistance group has repeatedly stressed that there will be no talk of any prisoner swap deal until the aggression on Gaza ends.
