Fighting terrorism in the region is a common mission, Iran, Turkey say
Iran and Turkey's foreign ministers agree that the fight against terrorism is a common responsibility for all countries in the region.
Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said that fighting terrorism should be a regional mission for all countries in the Middle East, in a phone call with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan.
The top Iranian diplomat stressed that the security of the region is directly interconnected with the security of each country while reiterating Iran's systematic expansion of relations with nations in the regional vicinity to preserve their interests.
Extending enthusiasm regarding the enhancement of bilateral relations between Turkey and Iran, Amir-Abdollahian shared his hopes for further improvement in light of the upcoming presidential visit Iran's Ebrahim Raisi will be taking to Ankara. Fidan welcomed the prospect and shared his country's preparedness.
Discussing the latest developments the region has seen, the Turkish minister emphasized that friendly relations must be maintained in the region.
Iran and Turkey are on the same page
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi arrived in Turkey on January 4 where he met his Turkish counterpart, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip according to Turkish media citing sources.
Reportedly, Erdogan gave Raisi proposals prepared by Ankara for a settlement in the Gaza Strip.
Raisi, who was Erdogan's first guest in 2024, aimed to hold a closed meeting with the Turkish president ahead of the 8th meeting of the Turkish-Iranian High-Level Cooperation Council the media reported.
The key topics on the meeting's agenda, according to reports, were predominantly regarding the Israeli genocide in the Gaza Strip, ways to stop the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, and how to establish a permanent ceasefire.
Alongside the topic of occupied Palestine, Turkey and Iran were said to have discussed ways to develop trade and energy partnerships, as well as defense industry cooperation and the signing of related agreements.
