At a press conference in Papua New Guinea on Saturday, China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed on Saturday that advocating for the admission of a Palestinian state into the United Nations is an endeavor aimed at addressing a longstanding injustice, as reported by state media Xinhua.

The remarks come two days after the US vetoed a decision to award Palestine full membership status in the United Nations.

"A prompt admission of Palestine into the United Nations is a move to rectify a prolonged historical injustice," Xinhua quoted Wang as saying.

Washington lobbied several nations to vote against the proposal, this past week, however, its efforts failed to produce the sought-after results, as 12 nations in the UNSC voted for awarding Palestine full membership status.

Two other nations abstained from voting, including Switzerland and the UK, leaving the US stranded with only no vote in the UNSC.

The move sparked controversy among other members.

Algeria's representative said that the failure to award Palestine full UN membership status will be a permanent stain on the international body.

Russian Ambassador to the UN, Vassily Nebenzia, said that Washington's use of its veto power was a hopeless attempt to change the course of history.

He added said that history will not forgive the United States for its actions.

Axios reported earlier today that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced plans for the Palestinian Authority to reassess its relations with the US following the US veto of their bid for full membership in the UN.

Abbas reportedly told the official Palestinian news agency WAFA on Saturday that "the hostile positions" taken by the Biden administration "have generated unprecedented anger among the Palestinian people and the region's populations, potentially pushing the region towards further instability, chaos, and terrorism."
