Gaza aggression emphasizes resistance's importance: Syrian Deputy FM

Syrian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Bassam al-Sabbagh to Sputnik said that the Israeli aggression in Gaza underscores the need for resistance and support for the Palestinians under occupation.

The Syrian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Bassam al-Sabbagh, affirmed to Sputnik that the current Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip underscores the significance of supporting resistance and people under occupation.

Al-Sabbagh stated, "The barbaric aggression by the Zionist enemy against Gaza's civilians emphasizes the crucial role of resistance and supporting those under the yoke of occupation and colonialism."

He spoke to the Russian Agency on the sidelines of an event hosted by the Cuban Embassy in Damascus, marking the seventh anniversary of Fidel Castro's passing. The event was attended by Syrian political officials, officers from the Syrian Arab Army, and representatives of Palestinian resistance factions in Damascus.

Addressing the anniversary of the Cuban leader's passing, al-Sabbagh noted that Castro is an integral part of Cuba's history, highlighting his significant support for global liberation and resistance movements. He also emphasized Castro's enduring values and principles, which he regarded as "immortal and applicable for all times and places".

The Cuban Ambassador to Syria, Luis Mariano Fernandez Rodrigues, affirmed that Fidel strongly believed in the Palestinian cause, championing it globally. He highlighted Fidel's emphasis on the issue at the United Nations, recalling Castro's statement that "resolving this matter is crucial for peace in the region and the world."

Rodrigues emphasized that Castro denounced the Israeli crimes perpetrated against the Palestinian people, both past and ongoing. The late Cuban leader advocated for the legitimate rights of Palestinians, including their right to return to their land and establish an independent state with al-Quds as its capital.
