A member of the German Social Democratic Party presented his resignation on Monday in protest of the party's stance on Palestine.
Dennis Onbacha, a member of the German Social Democratic Party, released a statement on his Instagram page to make the announcement.
The following statement is dated on Monday, October 9, 2023.
"Ladies and Gentlemen"
"I am writing to you to announce my departure from the SPD. My decision is based on my deep disappointment with the party's stance regarding "Israel's" unjust and arbitrary occupation of Palestine."
"The continued occupation of Palestine endangers not only peace in the region but also the freedom and human rights of the Palestinian people. It is regrettable that, in my opinion, the SPD does not take a clear stand against this injustice."
"Instead of standing with the oppressed people of Palestine and taking action to support a just solution to the conflict, the SPD appears to be siding with "Israel"."
"This attitude is unacceptable to me as it indirectly supports "Israel's" terror and oppression."
"As a member of a political party, I want it to stand for justice, freedom and solidarity - not just as a symbol, but also through concrete actions. Unfortunately, I have the feeling that the SPD does not live up to these values when it comes to the conflict between Israel and Palestine."
"Finally, I ask you to respect my decision to leave the SPD. It is important to me that my political homeland takes a clear position against the occupation and oppression of Palestine and advocates for peace and justice in the region."

Authorities have launched six criminal and 36 administrative cases in connection with the incident.
As reported by the German daily Bild, the protest was arranged by the pro-Palestinian organization Samidoun.
Initially, organizers distributed baked goods to attendees, but the situation escalated when they started chanting anti-Israeli slogans and denouncing Israeli crimes, chanting "From the River to the Sea Palestine will be Free." This led to law enforcement dispersing the gathering.
