Greece expects release of Iran-held tankers in coming days - Report
Reports related to the informal diplomatic contacts have revealed on Wednesday that releasing the two Greek tankers held by Tehran is expected to take place in a matter of days.
Two Greek oil tankers held by the Iranian Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) since the end of May are expected to be released in the coming days, the Greek Kathimerini newspaper said on Thursday, citing informal diplomatic contacts.
The newspaper added that only when the Iranian Lana tanker and its oil cargo (captured by US authorities in Greece) leave Greece and reach international waters, the release of the two tankers will take place.
The Lana tanker was detained in mid-April in the Greek's Karystos Port after it moored due to technical problems it encountered en route. In response, Iran's Coast Guard has seized two Greek oil tankers, the Delta Poseidon, and the Prudent Warrior, off the coast of Aslaviyeh and Bandar Lengeh, a mere two days after Greece seized an Iranian oil tanker in compliance with US pressure.
In mid-June, the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) said in a statement that the Greek authorities released the Iranian oil tanker.
After judicial clashes and discussions between the US, Greek, and German authorities, the Greek Court decided to return the vessel to Iran, along with 60,000 tonnes of crude oil (out of the total 104,134 tonnes carried by Lana).
